Progress at the Civic Centre: First Phase of Enabling Works Complete
Our plans to transform Oldham Town Centre have taken an exciting step forward, with the first phase of enabling works now completed at the Civic Centre site.
These early works form a crucial part of preparing the area for future regeneration, helping us to better understand the site conditions and shape the next stages of development.

What’s coming next for the Civic Centre?
A planning application for the Civic Centre, as well as five other core town centre sites, has been submitted to Oldham Council. Subject to planning permission, the plans will see:
Up to 838 new homes
A diverse range of homes to meet local needs, from first-time buyers to families and older residents.
Ground-floor commercial spaces
New units to revitalise the area, offering business space that adds energy to the street and supports local enterprise.
New public realm and landscaping
High-quality public spaces, including a central, landscaped neighbourhood boulevard that will link homes and amenities while encouraging community connection.
This regeneration will be shaped by the character of surrounding neighbourhoods, including the adjacent Former Magistrates’ Court site, and will provide a seamless connection to the rest of the town centre.
With this early phase of investigations complete, work will now continue across the Civic Centre site, alongside preparations for future activity at Princes Gate and the Former Magistrates’ Court.
We’re excited to keep progressing this transformational project, and we will continue to update the community every step of the way.
